Our Story

GSD was formed right here in Gainesville, and we are proud to say that many of its founding members remain actively involved today. Following a renewed interest after COVID, local dancers began gathering at The Bull in downtown Gainesville. From these early meetings, a small but growing community took shape as more people became interested.

With support from the city, we were eventually able to reserve an excellent dedicated dance space, which we continue to use today at the Rosa B. Williams Center. Although GSD has evolved over time—including moving on from The Bull, where it all began—things have only continued to improve.

We now host weekly dances every Thursday, a themed event each month, and typically one to two days of live music per month. Thank you for being part of this wonderful journey and for helping us share and celebrate the history that makes this dance so special.
